The SWJTU-Leeds Joint School, founded in 2014, is a partnership between the University of Leeds and Southwest Jiaotong University (SWJTU), providing students in China with the opportunity to have exceptional learning experience in an outstanding educational environment. The Joint School is located at the Eastern (International) Campus, SWJTU in Chengdu, China. Combining the prominent advantages of the British and the Chinese education systems, the Joint School cultivates students under seven bachelor degree programmes, including Civil Engineering with Transport, Mechanical Engineering, Electronic and Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Technologies and Industrial Design. In 2024, the Joint School was selected as an Outstanding Case of Sino- Foreign Cooperative Education (only 20 institutions nationwide were honored). Job Description:

We are seeking applicants with interest in teaching English as a second language at SWJTU-Leeds Joint School. This role is expected to deliver high quality teaching to Year 1 students on English for Science and Engineering, as well as work with the faculty team in teaching and tutoring language-focused courses for Year 2 to Year 4 students. The recruited teacher will participate in assessment of students’ academic performance, and undertake academic research related to the role, especially in EAP, EMI and International Education.

Qualifications and Experience

  • comply with the laws and regulations of the People's Republic of China

  • native English speaker

  • preferably less than 50 years old

  • with TESOL, Cambridge ESOL DELTA, EFL teaching qualification, or equal

  • with a Master’s Degree or above, or be nearing completion of a DELTA (or equivalent)

  • with MA in TESOL, MA/ PGCert or equivalent in EAP, or MA in relevant field would be an advantage

  • with substantial experiences in teaching EFL and/or EAP & content at undergraduate level

  • be capable of developing or adapting materials to teach and make assessment of students’ performance at HEI level

  • be capable of applying the BALEAP TEAP competencies to teaching practice

  • with overseas experience of teaching EAP/ELT would be preferred

  • with experience of living and teaching in China would be preferred

  • with excellent cross-cultural communication skills

Employment and Management

The appointment will be made on a basis of a fixed term contract, and the initial contract term shall be for a duration of one year. The recruited teacher shall work full time and is expected to assist English module leaders and co-leaders in organizing and managing teaching issues, and cooperate with faculty of Year 1 at the education activities of SWJTU-Leeds Joint School.

Remuneration and Supporting Package

The annual salary is in the range of RMB 180,000 to 250,000, with the final offer to be determined based on a comprehensive assessment of the candidate's qualifications.
