Date:2025-05-15   Edited By:tso_englis

On the afternoon of May 14, 2025, a teaching workshop on English-Medium Instruction (EMI), jointly organized by the Joint School and the Dean’s Office (Teacher Development Center) of SWJTU, was successfully held in Room X30517. The workshop aimed to explore how to create efficient learning opportunities in EMI environments and how to construct effective learning environments.

Ms. Natasha Rust, deputy director of student education and senior lecturer at the Language Center of the University of Leeds, delivered a keynote report titled "Pedagogy and Language for EMI Settings." She highlighted how English for Academic Purposes (EAP) tutors can deeply participate in syllabus and curriculum decisions, such as shifting focus from Knowledge and skills learning outcomes, evidence of engagement, formative feedback, to process and product.

The workshop stimulated profound reflections on how to effectively integrate language proficiency development into the teaching of science and engineering courses in EMI environments, and as expected, to improve teaching quality and student learning outcomes.
