Demonstration Class of Chemical Technologies Programme was Held

On 17 April, a highly successful demonstration class delivered by four lecturers who will teach on the Chemical Technologies Programme was held in Room X30519. The session opened with Ziyi Chen’s engaging presentation on Professional Engineering Skills, followed by Xiaoling Xu on Materials Science and Engineering and Kerong Deng on Introduction to Modern Chemistry. The demonstration concluded with Wenjuan Wang’s dynamic lecture on Fundamentals of Organic Chemistry for Biology & Synthesis.

The event was hosted by Zhao Pingrui, Deputy Dean of the SWJTU-Leeds Joint School, and attracted strong representation from academic leadership. Observers included Sheng Dai, Head of SCAPE; David Harbottle and Nimesh Mistry, Directors of Student Education from SCAPE and the School of Chemistry respectively; Bao Xu and Yong Wang, Programme Directors; Joanne Shiel, Year One Programme Director; and Ben Hanson, Teaching Staff Representative.

The presentations showcased a high standard of teaching professionalism, strong subject expertise, and the lecturers’ confidence in delivering course content fluently in English. Constructive and insightful feedback was provided by the observers following the session. The event was widely recognised as a valuable platform for peer learning and academic exchange, and there was a consensus that similar demonstration classes should be held regularly to share best teaching practices and further strengthen teaching excellence within the Joint School.
