On 7 July, the second round of demonstration classes delivered by two lecturers who will teach on the Chemical Technologies Programme was held in Room X30519.
The event was chaired by Sheng Dai, Head of SCAPE. Attendees included David Harbottle and Nimesh Mistry, Directors of Student Education from SCAPE and the School of Chemistry, respectively; Tariq Mahmud, MSc Programme Manager of SCAPE; Bao Xu and Yong Wang, Programme Directors for Chemical Technologies; Costas Loizou, Year 1 Director of the SWJTU-Leeds Joint School; Dmitry Shalashilin from the School of Chemistry, a former Programme Director for Chemical Technologies and Yujia Lu,Teaching Support Office Director of SWJTU-Leeds Joint School.
The two lecturers, Man Jiang and Ruiying Liu, delivered demonstration classes on selected chapters from two core modules developed by SWJTU: Analytical Chemistry and Characterisation, and Fundamental Chemistry Laboratory Skills, respectively. The presentations were well prepared and demonstrated the lecturers’ ability to deliver them in fluent English.
Each session was followed by formative feedback and a reflective pedagogical discussion on curriculum design, student engagement, and the alignment of practical teaching with intended learning outcomes. With the conclusion of this event, all six lecturers delivering Year 2 modules for the Chemical Technologies Programme have now completed their demonstration classes.
The event provided a high-quality platform for academic exchange among members of staff involved in the Chemical Technologies Programme, supporting peer learning among lecturers and contributing to the ongoing enhancement of their pedagogical practice. It also facilitated the integration of diverse educational perspectives and the exchange of practice-based teaching experience between Chinese and British educators, thereby laying a strong foundation for effective teaching and learning in the coming semesters.
