Obtaining the Notification Letter of Foreigner’s Work Permit in China

Obtain your entry qualification as a university faculty member.

Please DO NOT make a work permit notification letter application until you have received your work contract offer at SWJTU.

Obtaining the Notification Letter of Foreigner’s Work Permitin China

International Faculty Members who have obtained the relevant documents from the University for Acceptance as a member of the University staff should apply for the work permit notification letter before applying for the work type of visa to China.

First Step. Application for the Work Permit Notification Letter

Chinese translations of the following documents must be provided, and Chinese translations of non-English documents must be stamped with the translation seal of the official translation company.

1. Academic Resume(starting from high school degree, listed by month and year, no blank period)(tel, address, email) (marriage status)

2.Letter of recommendation or reference from the last employer (or current employer) (stating job position and performance)

3. Highest degree certificate (must be certificated by P. R. China Embassy or Consulate General in the applicant's home country) (or have obtained accreditation from the Chinese Ministry of Education's Study Abroad Service Centre) (Accreditation is not required for qualifications obtained in Chinese Mainland.)

4. Non-criminal record report issued by the applicant's home country's local police authority (must be certificated by P. R. China Embassy or Consulate General in the applicant's home country).

5. Health Check Report by the applicant's home country's certain organizations (the report must use the certain report form provided by the P.R. China Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs) (available in the download center of the International Office website).

6. Contract (identified clearly about the applicant's job title, working content, contract period, salary and insurances purchase, together with signature and university's stamp) (Only Chinese is required and legally effective)(Applicants must have a signed and stamped contract in the form provided by the University Personnel Office)

7. Information Page on the applicant's passport

8. ID photo (digital type, white color background)

9. Name of the exact Chinese Embassy or Consulate where the Chinese visa is to be issued

Visa, Work Permit and Residence Permit Application Process

Second Step. Application for the Work Permit

1. The Z type of visa requires the holder to apply for the residence permit within 30 days from the date of entry. The residence permit must depend upon the work permit.

International faculty members entering China on an R visa who have a long-term work contract with the university should apply for a work permit and a residence permit upon entry into China.

2. When the applicant obtained the Z type of visa and entry in the Chinese border, the applicant must do the following things in the first 24 hours (do not over 48 hours).

A. Within 24 hours of arrival,international faculty members are required to register for foreigner accommodation at the police station where they live. You will need your original passport, a housing contract/certificate of accommodation (for off-campus accommodation, the property company or the owner of the property, for on-campus accommodation, a certificate of accommodation issued by the university's Assets Office and a letter of introduction from the International Office). Alternatively, you can register for accommodation on the public WeChat website "Chengdu Immigration".

B. Take a health check to Chengdu Customs Inspection and Quarantine (MUST take). The Customs will issue the applicant a Certification of Verification (Bring Passport and ID photo hard copy) (TEL: 028-85158859)

3. Applying for the work permit needs the flowing documents

2) Health check report certification by Chengdu Customs

3) All of the original documents provided by the applicant's when applied for the work permit notification

Visa, Work Permit and Residence Permit Application Process

Third Step. Application for the Residence Permit

This step is fully related to the applicant's personal issue due to that the Exit and Entry Authority of Chengdu Public Security Bureau(EEPSB)requires the applicant's fingerprints. So that applicants must go there by themselves. Required documents follow:

* Must apply for the resident permit in 30 days once entry in China. (ASAP take health check in Chengdu and contact with the International Office of SWJTU)*

* Overstay for the Z visa will face a punishment. (If overstay, the applicant shall apply for the short-stay bridge visa. The applicant shall firstly go to the local police station.)*Overstaying will result in penalties and fines (in case of overstaying, applicants should go to the police station of their place of residence to be questioned about the offence, given a statement and punished before applying for a temporary stay visa).

Applying for the new resident permit and extension of the resident permit shall bring all these documents below by the applicant self.

Visa for High-level Talents, Visiting Professors and Assistant Professors

First Step. Application for the Confirmation Letter for High Level Talents

Contact the SCHOOL of SWJTU you are visiting and provide documents listed as below:

--Scanned Passport Identity page

--Standard Photo with a white background

--CV including detailed information about your education and working experiences, academic achievement

--An Invitation Letter from a school of SWJTU , including a statement of your position or academic title during the visiting period, your working time basis, length of stay and which side will bear your salary.

--Some other documents might need to be provided as the requirement is under updating.

The Confirmation Letterfor High Level Talentsis issued by the Bureau of Science and Technology of Sichuan.

Second Step:Application for the R visa at the Chinese Embassy or Consulate with the Confirmation Letter.

Third Step: Contact the School of SWJTU you are visiting and apply for a work permit and residence permit after your entry of China.
