Should returning international travelers self-quarantine?

Under the current Covid-19 outbreak measures, anyone entering the Chinese mainland will be required to undergo a5-dayintensive quarantine at the first point of entry. Upon arrival in Chengdu, a further 3 days of home isolation and observation will be required at the place of residence. A negative nucleic acid test will be obtained before entering the campus.(updated on 15 November 2022).

International Faculty who are beginning his/her academic life at SWJTU must firstly check-in at the University’s Human Resources Office. This step should be assisted by the human resources secretary from your school. After checking in at the HR office, you will need to get your campus ID card, as well as your salary account number, etc.

SWJTU ID Card

Your SWJTU ID card proclaims you as a member of the SWJTU community and is your key to access essential campus services.

One card does it all. From on-campus dining to shuttle bus, your SWJTU ID Card gets you access to many special features of being a member of SWJTU.

Housing

Where will I live?

International Office of SWJTU is NOT able to make housing arrangements for you.

Whether you decide to live on-campus or off-campus, you will want to finalize your housing arrangement before your arrival.

To live on-campus in university residence halls:

Jiuli Campus:YANGHUA ZHAI

Xipu Campus:HONGZHE ZHAI

If you require on-campus accommodation, you will need to ask a member of staff at your School to help you contact the University Assets Office in order to book a flat.


What to Bring

What should I bring with me?

Chengdu is a city with four distinct seasons. You only need to bring a few essential belongings with you. However, it is recommended that you pay attention to the live weather forecast before you arrive in Chengdu.July and August is on the average the WARMEST month. January is on the average the COOLEST month.

Initial Expenses

Plan on bringing or having access to enough funds to meet your living expenses for the first month. If you live off-campus, some landlords will require you to pay both the first month’s rent in advance, as well as a security deposit. If you bring your own national currency, please exchange it to RMB yuan upon arrival at the airport.

What is culture shock?

Culture shock is the many reactions that a person may have when moving from a familiar environment where you easily recognize the language, symbols, smells, tastes, and sounds to an unfamiliar or new environment where everything is different.

What can I do about it?

Counseling and Psychological Services provides many options for support:

International Faculty Support Group:This is a supportive group for international faculty members to explore and discuss various multicultural issues. Numerous topics may be discussed. This group will run online or offline activities.

Counseling and Therapy:Discuss and explore problems or feelings that are important to you. The University International Office will liaise with the University Psychology Centre to seek psychological advice and treatment for the University’sinternational faculty and staff.
